The story:

In the Grimm version extreme pregnancy cravings cause Rapunzel’s dad to steal salad greens from the grumpy enchantress next door for his wife. She gives it to him in exchange for the unborn child, then whisks her away to a tower - no explanation for that choice is given. The witch finds out a prince has been visiting so she chops off Rapunzel’s hair and ditches her in the desert. Then uses the cut braid to trick the prince into climbing up, only to take his eyes. He wanders miserably for years till he comes across Rapunzel in the desert. Her tears heal his eyes and they live happily ever after. Yowza.
